Horse Radish Relish

NSSFoods make an outstanding Prepared Horseradish; all customers express surprise and great satisfaction at its strong fresh flavour, achieved by our complete in-house processing from the raw ingredients to the final product.

Prepared Horseradish keeps its pungency only if it is made from fresh, not dried root, and is sold and used without delay. The horseradish root that we use is grown near Norwich and is generally available for the eight months from November to June; during this period, we prepare fresh product every week.

We also sell freshly grated Horseradish in distilled vinegar (4% acidity) for those who prefer to make it up to their own recipe.

Harissa

Harissa is a North African sauce or paste made from chilli peppers, garlic, olive oil and spices, often coriander, cumin and caraway; it may also contain tomata. Norfolk and Suffolk Speciality Foods Harissa

Jar Size:

It is used both as a condiment and as an ingredient. It is considered by many to be the most important item in Tunisian cuisine, and can be found in other countries of North Africa, such as those of Morocco and Algeria.

Harissa is especially known for its combination with typically North African dishes such as couscous, served alongside the meat, vegetable and semolina, in which case each diner takes a suitable quantity and stirs it into the accompanying stew to suit personal taste. It is also eaten with pasta and in soup; mix a little with some mayonnaise or stock and allow each person to add the quantity they wish. Tiny dabs of harissa can be served rather in the manner of English Mustard as a condiment for grilled and roast meats and poultry.

As an ingredient in the kitchen, harissa can be added to casseroles and soups to give a fiery kick, or stirred into natural yogurt to make a tasty marinade for chicken and pork dishes. Students, or anyone in a hurry, can add a little to improve humble dishes such as baked beans, jacket potatoes, Welsh Rarebit etc. It is also delicious when added to the normal fillings in sandwiches.
